The Benefits of Infrared Saunas

One of my favourite things to do in Winter (actually all year round…) is hop in an Infrared Sauna!

Infrared Saunas work to heat you from the inside out, rather than heat the air around you as a traditional sauna does. Your core body temperature increases and your will experience a deeper sweat.

Why should you hop in a sauna?

  • Promotes relaxation

  • Improves circulation and lymph flow (dilates blood vessels, delivers more oxygen around the body)

  • Relief from sore muscles/stiffness/pain

  • Strengthen your immune system

  • Used as a detox aid via the increased sweating, lowering the amount of toxins circulating in the body

As with any increased sweating, the importance of rehydration is huge - before and after a sauna session.

To promote sweating, you can also drink herbal tea beforehand, horsetail, dandelion or nettle are all great choices.

If your aim is improved lymphatic flow, dry brushing beforehand can be done to give your system a kickstart - always brushing towards the heart.

The sauna is a great place for mindfulness, this could be a simple as focused deep breathing or playing a guided meditation.
